Description

From The Publisher:

"We have to admit there is an immeasurable distance between all we read in the Bible and the practice of Christians."
—Jacques Ellul, French philosopher

Nineteenth-century Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard wrote that “millions of people through the centuries have little by little cheated God out of Christianity.” He also wrote, “The Christianity of the New Testament simply does not exist.” What did he mean? What happened to the belief and practices of the first-century Christian Church? Have they been preserved?

Cheating God Out of Christianity explores these questions and exposes misconceptions and myths surrounding Jesus’ life and teachings. This informative program explores the biblical record of Jesus and the first Christians. What does the Bible say about His life, His teachings and the practices of those who followed Him in the first century? It’s a story clouded in misunderstanding—a story often told, but rarely as the Bible tells it.

Journey along with host David Hulme as he goes to Bethlehem, the city where it all began. Travel back in time and follow the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. En route, visit Jerusalem, the city holy to three of the world’s great religions, as well as some of the places where the early apostles lived and worked.

The program features a look at new archaeological findings at Sepphoris, a first-century capital of Galilee. Located about four miles from Nazareth, Jesus’ hometown, Sepphoris invites some fascinating glimpses into the culture and society of apostolic times. We’ll visit Nazareth, too, as well as Nimrud Castle, the fascinating and forbidding crusader fortress; the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus is thought to have given His famous Sermon on the Mount overlooking beautiful vistas of the Sea of Galilee; and Machaerus, where John the Baptist was imprisoned. Each site offers a new look into the story of early Christianity and helps bring to light the mysteries of the Scriptures.
